BROMSGROVE Rovers manager, Roy Martin, had acted swiftly to shore up his depleted side after seven first team members, including John Dyer, left. He had signed four players and was hard on the trail of a further six. Among the new men was goalie Mickey Lawrence who had league experience and who was said to be the best in the county.
A YOUNG Farmers Club roadshow, held in Bromsgrove market hall on Sunday, was hailed as a huge success. Visitors saw milking, shearing and horse shoeing demonstrations taking place in addition to other farming activities.
PETER Williman, head of Meadows First School, in Bromsgrove, took advantage of his school being closed for a day for the Euro elections to decorate his shabby study. He explained the last time the school had been painted was 15 years ago and the decor was so bad he was ashamed to invite anyone in. "If I had waited for the council to do the job I would have waited forever," he said.
DON Mabbs, a student at Shenstone College, in Bromsgrove, was among a party of six preparing to scale two unclimbed peaks in the Himalayas. They were Brammah's Wife at 20,600 feet and the Eiger at 21,100 feet. Sponsors were being sought to fund the £4,000 venture.
THE Friends of Bromsgrove Hospitals fete at Parkside school raised a record £800 profit. It was opened by young Caroline Burman, the daughter of Mr John Burman, a surgeon at the town's General Hospital. As usual the baby show was one of the most popular attractions. The silver cup for the bonniest baby went to Gayle Coveney from York Close, Sidemoor.
