VIKRAM Solanki has revealed his burning desire to bring back the New Road glory days after being named Worcestershire's new skipper.
The 28-year-old batsman was today confirmed as the County's captain with spinner Gareth Batty his number two.
The duo -- both current England internationals -- have been given the task to win trophies, under chief Tom Moody, following Ben Smith's resignation last season.
"I want us to get back to winning things," said Solanki. "I've been here for a number of years now and I can remember probably the best period in the club's history when we won trophies on a regular basis.
"That's what the club yearns for and, certainly, with the nucleus of the squad that we have, it's what can be achieved again."
The captaincy will be the first major leadership role for Solanki at New Road after director of cricket Moody identified the elegant stroke-maker as the outstanding candidate.
Moody said: "Vikram is a Worcestershire player through and through and we are confident he has the right qualities to lead us forward at this stage of our development. The experience he has recently gained in the successful England set-up can only help us at County level and I look forward to working with him in the future."
Solanki, in his 12th year at New Road, is desperate to bring silverware back to the County.
"It's a case of me, along with all the other players, working together to achieve a little bit more than we have done in recent times," he said.
"I hope I can bring more of a combined effort to the role. I'll be asking for a lot of input and I'll listen to advice from the senior members of the squad, but also take on board ideas from some of the younger members.
"I'll be looking for everybody to help in all aspects of the captaincy.
"It's an exciting time for me and I'll be very interested in how I react to certain situations. I can't really tell what my style will be. I can't see myself ranting and raving but I am passionate about cricket and Worcestershire. So, maybe there will be a time where I have a rant and a rave!
"It's a huge responsibility but I'm comfortable with that be-cause of the support staff ar-ound and the senior players like Graeme Hick. Graeme's somebody who I turn to quite regularly and I'll continue to do that.
"Gareth Batty will be vice-captain and he's a very important person for Worcestershire. He's a passionate player and I've got the utmost respect for him as a cricketer.
"He's an exceptionally talented player, a winner, and he's got a good cricketing brain.
"I have to emphasise, though, that I'll be looking for everybody to play their part."
