JOSEPH Davis, 28, of Stoke Works, suffered a serious injury while working at the Stoke Prior mill. He became caught up in the machinery and was thrust against a pillar, crushing a shoulder. He was taken to the Cottage Hospital where he was attended to by Dr Coaker.

A COLLECTION of porcelain which had belonged to the late "Salt King" John Corbett from Impney, Droitwich, went under the hammer at Christie's auction rooms in London for £1,500.

DROITWICH had the worst reputation locally for people being summoned for swearing, but Bromsgrove was catching up fast. This week town magistrates heard five cases involving men and women using obscene language in the streets or in their own homes. Sid Giles from Little Lane, a persistent offender, was made an example of and was fined 10/- (50p) plus costs. The chairman of the bench said people, especially children, had the right to walk the streets without their ears being assailed by foul expressions. It was especially sad, he said, that very young children had been heard to utter words that would make a bargeman blush.

A NEW facility for the acceptance and delivery of telegrams from 8am to 8pm opened at Catshill Post Office this week. It would serve a large area of north Bromsgrove and surrounding villages.

FRIDAY'S heavy rain storms left many areas of Bromsgrove and Droitwich under water. The canal overflowed its banks at Stoke Works and flooded several homes and gardens in Sagebury Terrace. Householders there had to act swiftly to save their livestock from drowning. Many fields were under several feet of water and several roads at Dodford and Woodcote were impassable. The floods at Droitwich, in the High Street and St George's Square, were the worst since 1900.
