CHARITABLE teachers at a Worcestershire school have put their best feet forward to raise a massive £2,500 for a national leukaemia charity.
Eight teachers from Clifton upon Teme Primary School took part in Leukaemia Care's Christmas fun run in Worcester, raising £1,500 for the charity through sponsorship money from parents of pupils.
The amount they raised was boosted by a £1,000 donation from Clifton resident Gavin McLaren's Birmingham-based financial services company Towry Law Group - whose five-year-old son Steven attends the school and was diagnosed as a leukaemia sufferer during the summer.
Louise Carlin, event and sponsorship fund-raiser at Leukaemia Care - whose headquarters are based in Shrubbery Avenue, Barbourne, Worcester - said she was astounded by the amount the school had raised.
Fantastic
She visited the school last week to be presented with a cheque for the total sum raised.
"I think for a school of 70 pupils that is a phenomenal amount of money to have raised - it's fantastic," she said.
"They've worked really hard to get such a large amount of money together and it's really wonderful."
Headteacher Debbie Mitchell said everyone at the school had pulled together to support the charity.
"We decided we wanted to do it because of Steven and we thought it'd be a nice way of supporting the family."
More than 1,000 runners took part in Leukaemia Care's Christmas fun run at the beginning of December, raising more than £30,000 for the charity.
