RUNANWAY leaders Warwickshire made a promising start when they launched their innings against relegation-haunted Worcestershire in the Frizzell County Championship Division One game at New Road today.

Nick Knight and Mark Wagh began against the pace attack of Matt Mason and Andy Bichel after the County had lost the toss for the sixth successive match. Knight opened his account with a leisurely single off Mason who was operating from the New Road end.

Wagh got off the mark by pushing Mason through the covers for a comfortable two. He followed up in the same over with the first four of the day.

Knight also slotted into the boundary groove to lift Warwickshire into double figures in the fourth over.

Third-from-bottom Worcestershire made two changes from their last Championship match which they lost by seven wickets to Sussex at Hove.

Batsman Kadeer Ali and paceman Nadeem Malik were called up to replace Vikram Solanki and Gareth Batty -- both on England's one-day duty.
