ANDY Bichel no longer has his Cricket Australia contract as Test or one-day international cricketer but David Boon refuses to rule him out of contention for a recall.

Bichel cracked a season best innings of 108 for Worcestershire against Mid-dlesex last Monday, but as a bowler he has looked a shadow of the man who was an integral part of the Aus-tralian set up for the best part of a decade.

But Boon, who is one of four national selectors, insists that the door is still open for the 34-year-old Queensland all-rounder.

"Its up to Andy as it is for all of the other Australian State cricketers to do something special to earn selection," said Boon.

"If he scores consecutive hundreds or takes wickets against different opposition in all conditions this summer he will be considered again for Australia.

"He is not being ignored by the selectors and we look at the English county performances of all the Australian players."

Boon's fellow selector, Trevor Hohns, is concerned that the heavy workload of Australia bowlers could affect their international performances.

But according to Hohns there are two notable exceptions in Andy Bichel and Michael Kasprowicz.

"In recent times Bichel and Kasprowicz have benefited from playing county cricket. But it's a difficult one.

"We don't want bowlers coming back with their backsides bowled off. With the amount of cricket we have coming up over the next twelve months, we can't afford to have players bowled into the ground," said Hohns.

Bichel has played 19 Tests for Australia and been twelfth man the same number of times.
