BROMSGROVE and District Canine Society had a good quality entry for their final show of the year. Best in show was a whippet bitch named Savillepark Symphony, best opposite sex was golden retriever Andy Grey Token of Michant, with a standard poodle bitch named Silverstell of Whittens, taking the prize for best puppy.
A BELBROUGHTON woman took part in a sponsored sunflower growing competition and ended up with a plant twice her size. Brenda Withers, of Woodgate Way, grew a sunflower 10 foot 10 inches high. Taking part in the competition were trainees at Bromsgrove Adult Education Centre for the mentally handicapped. The giant sunflower raised over £60 for the centre.
A RUBERY youth described as an electrical fanatic damaged a school masters car and attempted to steal a stereo cassette from another, Bromsgrove magistrates heard. The youth was found in a mini with the stereo already removed after already being involved in a previous incident of spraying paint on a school masters car. He was fined £30 and £21 expenses but the schoolmaster asked for no compensation as the paint was easily removed.
