THE proliferation of advertising signs on main road approaches to Bromsgrove was irritating the urban district council which had compiled a list of some 150 offenders. Many included national company slogans, others, mainly local firms, had their names emblazoned on the gable ends of properties.
THE first installment of a large donation being raised by the Winslow family in the USA for St Peter's Church in Droitwich was handed over by Robert Winslow from Florida at a service in the Spa on Sunday. Robert was a descendant of Edward Winslow, one of the Pilgrim Fathers, who had been christened at St Peter's 359 years ago.
THE owner of a mischievous pet magpie was told to ensure the bird behaved itself in future. Tenants in council houses in Cobnall Road, Catshill, were fed up with the bird swooping in through windows and stealing various items. The urban district council issued the warning following complaints.
BROMSGROVE was gearing itself for an action packed Battle of Britain Week during which various activities were planned culminating in a service at the parish church on Sunday. A dance at Harris brushworks in Stoke Prior was one of the highlights with free bus travel laid on from a wide area. Admission was 5/- (25p) half price for uniformed service men and women.
