December 3, 1904

FREDERICK Edwins, an old man, living in Edward Street, Redditch, was summoned for arrears of maintenance, amounting to £1.17s 6d, in respect of his son Earnest, who is in the Hereford Industrial School.

It appeared from the evidence of Superintendent Hayes, who had been asked by the inspector to take proceedings, that defendant for some time paid very irregularly towards his son's maintenance.

Proceedings were eventually taken against him and an order was made by the magistrates on June 1st for him to pay 1s 6d costs per week.

From then on, defendant had not paid a single farthing.

It was really at the defendant's wishes that the lad, who was 13 years old, was sent to the school, as defendant said he had no control over him and he was constantly in trouble with the school authorities through the boy.

Defendant was proceeding to relate a tale of woe about an accident he met with, his leg being smashed, and was about show the Bench itself, who urged on him the necessity of paying 1s 6d per week.
