FURTHER complaints from the residents of adjoining Headless Cross playing fields about the damage to property and the danger to the users of Birchfield Road were placed before Tuesday's meeting of Redditch Urban Council's parks and open spaces committee.

After a lengthy discussion, it was agreed, upon proposition of Councillor A Poole, seconded by Councillor JH Taylor, to recommend that high protective fencing be erected the double width of the goal areas.

The chairman, WFR Cardy, said it was a grave problem.

A deputation from the council had visited the field and after an inspection, it was decided to turn the goalposts so the actual playing field was at right angles from the road.

The surveyor, Mr E Buckley, pointed out a fence was to be erected and it had been left to a sub-committee to inspect the field.

The goalposts had been turned in different directions time and time again but always there were complaints.

One of the complaints was to the effect that considerable damage was caused by footballs.

On one occasion, a ball crashed through a glass veranda.

The ball was continually being driven into the roadway to the danger of property and passers-by.

Councillor HD Spencer pointed out this request ought to go to the estates committee in order to give the surveyor a cheque to re-fence the estate.
