A WAGON on a goods train travelling from Alcester to Redditch caught fire just before it arrived at Studley Station on Tuesday.
As the train pulled into the station, Studley's stationmaster noticed smoke coming from the wagon and he and his staff tried to put out the blaze with buckets of water.
Fire brigades from Studley, Alcester and Redditch attended and the fire was quickly extinguished.
The only damage was to some paint work and the wagon, which was the open type, was second in line behind the engine, and it is thought that sparks from the engine ignited sawdust and wood-shavings which were packed round concrete posts in the wagon.
