THE highlight of the social and cultural calendar for many Kidderminster Scots - Burns Night - will bring a boost to the coffers of Kemp Hospice this year.

The night of January 25 is etched on the hearts of Scots all over the world as Burns Night.

With its thriving Scottish Society, Kidderminster will not be left behind when it comes to paying homage to the famous writer.

This year Kidderminster and District Scottish Society will be donating all the profits from its Burns Night event - the highlight of its social calendar - to the hospice. The evening, naturally, will be a celebration of all things Scottish and the works and life of bard Robbie Burns.

There will be Scottish dancing and singers Beverley Worboys and Michael Robinson will perform some of his songs.

There will also be the traditional meal of Haggis, bashed neaps and tatties - mashed Swede and potatoes - with the haggis piped in by founder member Bill Yule.

After the meal speeches including the most important one - The Immortal Memory, a tribute to Burns - go ahead.

Madelaine Roy, Scottish Society president, said: "The Immortal Memory is about coming up with a different aspect of Rabbie. Even though it is done every year, somehow there is always something different to say ."

It is written and performed by a different person each year and this year it is the turn of Tom Roy, Mrs Roy's husband.

He will concentrate on Burns's 365 songs - all of which Mr Roy has on compact disc.

The Burns "Nicht" supper and dance event goes ahead at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel, Habberley Road, Bewdley on Saturday.
