THIS picture of the fire brigade printed in our Memory Lane column on March 31 prompted a bit of head scratching among readers.
It was actually the brigade of Herbert Terry's factory, off Millsbro Road in Smallwood - not British Aluminium.
Clifford Taylor, 80, of Headless Cross, was in the photograph and contacted the Advertiser.
He said: "I joined the brigade after leaving the Home Guard.
"I remember we had alarms night after night because, of course, Redditch was on the way to a lot of cities the Luftwaffe wanted to bomb and they used to fly over.
"When Glover Street was bombed we went across to see if we could help but there wasn't a great deal we could do.
"Several people died that night and I still have vivid recollections of it. But luckily, Redditch didn't suffer too much bombing."
Those in the picture, taken in about 1940, are (back, from left): A Petford, Bill Fleetwood, G Petford; (middle): S Spencer, unknown, Clifford Taylor, B Box, R Hall, L Grubb, T Dobson, E Caldicott, E Courtney; (front): A Blick, unknown, F Field, Norman Terry, Victor Eaborn, H Styler, C Glover and B Hall.
