WILY tinkers are leading local authority chiefs on a cat and mouse chase around Redditch - and the travellers are winning.
The combined forces of the legal departments of Redditch Council and the development corporation have been outwitted by itinerants who camped by the town's cemetery.
Every time the solicitors get a court writ to evict the tinkers, they do a quick flit onto corporation land.
The solution to Redditch's tinker problem would be for the county to become a designated area under the Caravan Sites Act.
This would give magistrates the power to fine travellers who camped anywhere except specified tinker sites.
