BROMSGROVE firm JK Bradshaw was responsible for the first major building to be finished of the re-planned Coventry city centre, which was destroyed during the war. It was a contemporary designed hairdressing salon. The firm carried out the work in less than eight weeks. As there was only one window in the building, false windows were installed and modern tungsten lighting.

BARNT Green held its 13th annual show at the Poplars on Bittell Road. After a miserable morning the weather improved in the afternoon and nearly 2,000 people turned out for it. A fancy dress procession through the village marked the start to the show and after singing the national anthem and receiving a blessing from the vicar, Mrs Godrich, declared the show open.

Bromsgrove Rovers were gearing up for their first match of the new season at the Victoria Ground on August 21 against Banbury. There was to be a friendly match between the Rovers' first and second teams the following Saturday kicking off at 3pm.

A VILLAGE policeman was rewarded for an act of bravery at Belbroughton fete. In February he had rescued a dog called Butch, from a pond in the village. The dog had fallen through thin ice and was trapped their for four hours. PC Dixon managed to get the dog out, who promptly licked his face. He was presented with the certificate from the RSPCA commended his courage and humanity.
