THE magical tale of a young boy's adventures on Christmas Eve, The Snowman, opened at Birmingham Repertory Theatre on Friday.

Based on the book by Raymond Briggs and featuring the classic song Walking In The Air, The Snowman makes a welcome return to the theatre, having first premiered at the REP back in 1993. For the last six years, it has enjoyed sell-out success in London's West End.

Directed by award-winning director Bill Alexander, the show is choreographed by Robert North with music and lyrics by Howard Blake.

A spokesman sets the scene: "When the young boy's snowman comes to life, the two set off on a night-time journey.

"On their travels they meet dancing penguins, reindeer and crowds of the snowman's friends."

He added: "Audiences will be thrilled and spellbound as the snowman flies through the night sky."

The Snowman runs until January 30 with various performance times available.
