A WORCESTER- born Labour MP has been lambasted by the Tories for allegedly making anti-Jewish remarks in the Press.
Furious Conservatives have written to the Commission for Racial Equality, asking them to investigate claims Mike O'Brien made a personal attack on Conservative leader Michael Howard's Jewish background.
North Warwickshire MP Mr O'Brien, above, who grew up in Warndon and attended Blessed Edward Oldcorne RC High School, wrote an article for the Muslim Weekly newspaper in which he said the Tory leader was indifferent to the needs of British Muslims.
In the piece he said ''Ask yourself what Michael Howard will do for British Muslims? Will his foreign policy aim to help Palestine?''
Critics claim this was an attempt to draw on anti-Semitic feelings among Muslims.
But the Energy Minister - who was the Labour Party chairman in Worcester between 1978 and 1980 - has denied the allegations, saying the attack was on Mr Howard as a Conservative leader, not on a personal level.
