A HONEYMOON couple narrowly escaped being caught up in the tsunami disaster after their wedding in Malvern.
Charlotte Hancock and Patrice Commarmond spent a fortnight in the Maldives after being married at Christ Church on Saturday, December 11.
They flew home, as planned, the day after the tsunami hit the islands.
"They were extremely lucky," said Charlotte's father, Dr Gerry Hancock, of Avenue Road, Malvern.
"The first island they stayed on was badly hit and people had to get on to the roofs of buildings to escape, but by then they had moved to another island which was hardly affected at all."
The couple live in Germany, where the bride is a marketing manager for ICI and the groom a product development manager for Boots.
