WORCESTER Wanderers' young guns emulated the old boys with a stunning 17-0 victory at Bradford & Bingley Colts.
The Sixways youngsters moved into the last 16 of the National Colts Cup with a hard-earned win in Yorkshire, after the senior side had progressed to the quarter-final of the Powergen Junior Vase.
The home team had previously not been beaten this season, which demonstrated the quality of the Worcester team. The win was also more impressive in the face of strong Yorkshire winds which lashed the ground.
The larger Bradford players tried to intimidate the Wanderers from the off only to be shown the Worcester skills that dazzled the surprised home crowd.
They attacked from the start and, six minutes into the game, blindside flanker Matt Cox took front line-out ball and powered over from six metres out. The conversion was narrowly missed by fly-half Dan Antonelli.
Wanderers continued to dominate the game and, after 25 minutes of driving play, they secured good ball from a line-out just outside the opposition 22 and fed tighthead prop Sean Erlem to take the score to 10-0 with an unconverted try.
In the second-half, the Yorkshire referee certainly gave the home team every opportunity to get into the game by giving them 16 penalties to the four awarded to the visitors but the quality of the Worcester Colts' defence and counter-attack denied any scoring chances.
The game was wrapped up by an opportunist try by centre Carl Robinson after he charged down a hesitant clearance kick before going onto score.
Antonelli slotted the conversion and the Wanderers had claimed a momentous victory.
Coach Ashley Jones said: "The lads approached the game with great confidence and overcame strong opposition, bad weather conditions and some strange refereeing decisions to win with style."
