SORRY, E F Showell (Letters, Wednesday, January 11), if you are referring to the new harmonised domestic fixed wiring colour codes which replace the old red and black colours.
I must inform him that they are brown for live, blue for neutral and green/yellow for earth. They bring us into line with the rest of the EU at long last.
Only in 3 phase circuits is black used for one of the live phases and you are very unlikely to come across that in a domestic house.Black is used as the live or phase in North America which uses 110 volt supplies.
