ARSONISTS destroyed one of Droitwich Spa's landmark trees, believed to be more than a century old.
A £100 reward has been stumped up for information leading to the prosecution of the vandals who burnt the tree down in St Peter's Field, off Lyttleton Road.
The attack took place sometime between December 27 and 30.
Firefighters were called out on the morning of December 30 to put out the fire deliberately started in the hollow of the tree.
Wychavon District Council has carried out remedial works and it is hoped the century-old mature oak will eventually recover.
Lynn Stevens, Wychavon's parks officer said: "This is extremely sad because the tree is a real landmark and has been enjoyed by passers-by for possibly one hundred years.
"Hopefully the tree can be saved but we want to make sure these vandals are punished for their mindless behaviour."
Anyone who has information leading to a prosecution will receive a reward of £100.
