MEMBERS were welcomed to the December meeting with a glass of punch prepared by president Delice Bayliss. After the minutes were read and approved, a board went round with the Annual Dinner menu - to be held in January at The Boot.
This month, skittles matches will begin and secretary Miriam Tilt read out a long list of invitations to talks, demonstrations and quizzes as well as the Nearly New in April and the spring outing to Spetchley Gardens with supper, also in April.
Pam Hewitson told about her two-day visit to Rick Stein's restaurant in Padstow that she had won.
Delice then introduced Frank Townsend, who gave a talk on Christmas cards and customs. Before 1840, there were no stamps and the receiver of the mail paid. The first Christmas card was sent in 1843 and no colour before 1860.
Jenny Simpson gave the vote of thanks and everyone enjoyed an American supper.
The competition was won by Gill Blackband and Irene Dalton won the raffle.
In February, things return to normal with the meeting on the second Wednesday at 7.30pm.
