LEGENDARY Worcestershire auctioneer Tony Banks has died at his home at Laughern Hill, Wichenford, aged 90.
He was the son of George Herbert Banks, who founded the agricultural auctioneers G. Herbert Banks, in Kidderminster, in 1898.
Mr Banks joined his father as a pupil in 1931 and took over leadership of the firm on his death in 1946.
Through his hard work and popularity, Tony Banks developed G. Herbert Banks during the next 30 years until the new firm of Banks and Silvers evolved, which was eventually bought out by General Accident in 1987.
"He was a highly regarded professional man, but his main love was Kidderminster Cattle Market," said his son David.
"He was held in the highest regard both by butchers and farmers and was undoubtedly the finest cattle auctioneer of his time.
"He farmed throughout his life and had a wonderful feel for the countryside and all those who lived in it."
The firm of G. Herbert Banks was resurrected by David Banks in 1990 and his father continued to take a great interest.
A memorial service for Tony Banks will take place at Martley Church at 2pm, on Monday, January 31.
