WYRE Forest's Labour Westminster hopeful met up with Chancellor, Gordon Brown, at the launch of a scheme to provide children with savings accounts that will be waiting for them when they reach 18.
Marc Bayliss, the party's prospective parliamentary candidate for the next general election, was in Birmingham as the Government promoted the Child Trust Fund.
Under the scheme, eligible parents of children born after September, 2002 will receive an initial payment of £250 over the next few weeks.
"According to official statistics, more than 2,500 families in Wyre Forest look set to benefit directly from this new fund," said Mr Bayliss, adding that it would "help teach them the value of saving for the future".
Parents will be able to choose different types of accounts for their children without paying tax on the savings.
