A TEENAGER was found "severely impaled" on a metal spike today.
A passer-by called paramedics at 8.14am after finding the young man on the towpath by Worcester Bridge.
When paramedics arrived, they found both of his legs caught in barbed wire and a metal rail puncturing his upper thigh.
Firefighters were called and had to use heavy rescue equipment to cut him free.
The teenager, who was conscious but believed to be suffering from hypothermia, was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
A spokesman for the ambulance service said it is not known how long he had been there.
"We think he could have been there a while," he said.
"Luckily - if you can call it that - the rail missed all his main arteries or it could have been a different story."
A spokesman for Worcester police said they were investigating how the man came to be injured.
