There are just some folk you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of and a washed up former CIA agent played by Denzel Washington would certainly fit into this bracket.

Tony Scott's Man on Fire puts revenge high on the list in this hard hitting and at times disturbing movie.

The ever-impressive Washington plays the heavy drinking Creasy who is hired by a wealthy Mexican family to protect their daughter Pita (Dakota Fanning) following a spate of kidnappings in Mexico City.

The bodyguard and the girl spark up an inevitable, all be it, touching bond before, yes you've got it, she gets kidnapped by a band of villains.

Washington then goes on a vicious one-man mission to wipe the city of these evil thugs.

The veteran English director Scott takes full advantage of the vigilante's anger with some gruesome scenes of beatings and torture in the mould of his ultra violent nineties movie True Romance.

The two and a half-hour film is at times just too much too take in with the over the top visual effects which fail to match the top notch acting.

Surprisingly for such a lengthy film though it rarely seems to drag mainly due the screen presence of Washington and fellow Hollywood stars Christopher Walken and Mickey Rourke who have an intriguing story line to play with.

The film may lack that spark, and may well go on for a little bit too long but for those of you who don't mind the odd gruesome scene it is certainly worth a watch if not just for an outstanding cast.
