THIS game could be a turning point for Upton's Second XV this season, after a string of disappointing results.

EVESHAM IV 0, UPTON II 49PTS

Once again, the effort and commitment put in could not be faulted but this time they reaped the rewards of their attacking style of play.

After only five minutes, a quick tap penalty inside Evesham's 22 from Reeve fed No 8 Williams coming onto the ball at speed. His momentum could not be halted - 5-0.

The early breakthrough gave Upton a lift, and their newly assembled backline started breaking through the defence with alarming regularity.

Unlike other weeks, Upton's efforts were rewarded with tries, none better than the next by Lewis. Full-back Reynolds took a high ball and jinked his way through the first line of defence before offloading to left-wing Alan Lewis, who proceeded to outpace the cover to score in the corner.

While the Evesham pack gained parity towards the end of the first half, the backs could not match the scintillating interplay and pace of Upton flyhalf Stone and centre Jarrod Wood.

It was Matt Stone who scored the next try, weaving a trail through the Evesham XV.

In the second half, tired legs gave the Upton back line more space in which to work, with Stone pulling the strings.

Upton openside Break-well was the recipient of such a piece of play. Through with only the fullback to beat, he stumbled but still offloaded to prop Hunt in support.

With a certain try in the offing, Hunt somehow contrived to drop the ball in the act of scoring to take the shine off an excellent performance.

Referee Rowley's keen eye spotted this, topping off a great afternoon of adjudication.

In the final ten minutes Upton scored their best two tries. Jarrod Wood, a day short of his 18th birthday, ran in a try from near 35 yards and Rich Scott, using his low centre of gravity, forced his way over from 10 yards, with tacklers hanging on.

An excellent team performance, lead well by Andy Daniell. Man of the Match: Matt Stone.
