WEST Malvern were forced to reshuffle for Saturday's Phipps Cup match, with work commitments forcing out keeper Matty Powell, Dougie Hawes unavailable and Graeme Maclennan injured.

WEST MALVERN 3, HANLEY SWAN 4

They suffered an early blow when a hopeful lob completely deceived stand-in goalkeeper Tony Orgee and fell into the back of the net.

West Malvern responded strongly and equalised through Dave Kelm but Hanley came back and once again went in front.

No ground given by either side and it became a ding-dong affair.

In the second half West Malvern increased their pressure and levelled the score through Mitch Probert. Hanley responded but the West Malvern defence were beginning to settle and play well.

In the 60th minute, West Malvern went in front for the first time when Mitchell Probert slid home from close range.

Once again Hanley came back and with poor defensive work, they equalised.

With five minutes remaining Hanley were back in front when again, the West Malvern defence got in a tangle and the forward was able to drive the ball home.

Although West Malvern threw men forward they were unable to equalise.

On Saturday they are away to Fernhill Heath Spurs, players meet at 1pm at eurohaus or 1.45pm at the ground in Shap Drive.

West Malvern are sponsored by Amey and the Cross Keys.
