Heather Athletic 0 Fairfield Villa 0
RESURGENT Fairfield grabbed a valuable point at Heather to keep puling away from the relegation zone in the Midland Combination Division One on Saturday.
Villa can entertain thoughts of mid-table safety after an impressive performance.
Manager Neil Gallagher pin-pointed striker Wayne Davies as his side's driving force.
He said: "Wayne was outstanding. He ran the show completely for us."
Davies handed his side the lead in the 23rd minute after Leon Mooney's shot was deflected.
However, an injury to defender Steve Hasty allowed Athletic back into the game with an equaliser.
Davies almost had the last laugh but instead shot just inches wide.
Gallagher said: "It was a very good performance by the team.
"We must have had at least four or five players at their best and it's a good sign for the rest of the season."
Villa have also snapped up attacking midfielder David Dainty from West Midlands Premier League side Tividale.
Dainty joined Villa after being unable to get regular footballing action.
Gallagher said: "David's a good player and I hope he can give us a little extra."
Villa's new-found form will meet its sternest test yet on Saturday when they entertain second placed Cadbury Athletic at the Recreation Ground (1.45pm kick off).
Gallagher said: "They beat us earlier in the season but I'm confident we can give them a good game this time."
