FILM crews set up shop in a difficult-to-sell Bromsgrove house to capture a property makeover for national television.

John and Anne-Marie Hansell, from Stourbridge Road, found themselves in the firing line when they took part in Channel 4's Selling Houses programme.

Presenter and property expert Andrew Winter told the couple that their home of 20 years was a typical 60s house and the carpet was just plain horrible. But they still appreciated their time in the spotlight.

The couple have been trying to sell the house for more than four months with Bromsgrove estate agents Allan Morris. But in that time they haven't had a single viewing.

John said: "We want to downsize because our two daughters have left but we have been unable to sell the house. We were told our home was just plain horrible.

"However, it is great to have an expert come and help out. When you hear some of the comments you are at first taken aback but later start to understand what is meant. The house is set to have a total makeover and be brightened up and modernised."

The property, valued at £310,000, underwent the makeover last week in preparation for a viewing day set to take place today (Wednesday).

Presenter Andrew Winter said: "It is a very unique house that has some wonderful features. But the carpet was horrible and the kitchen was falling apart. I would recommend people to come and see what we have done with it."

Mary Burford, branch manager at Allan Morris estate agents, said: "It was difficult to sell the property because it is very individual and was also on the market over the winter months.

"The house was chosen for the makeover because it offered a challenge and had lots of areas in need of improvement."

The TV show is set to be aired in April.
