SO much for our "Conservative-controlled county council" when recently Labour councillors, en-bloc, joined with a motley collection of poisoned political dwarfs in order to sack the dedicated county councillor June Longmuir (Advertiser, January 19).
My question to this rabble of opportunists during the debate was: "Who among you has the intellectual capacity, experience, knowledge, qualifications and commitment to do the job of Cabinet Member for Education and Life-long Learning?"
There were no takers.
The Redditch Review was decided under the 1997-2001, Liberal Democrat/Labour controlled council, when every Redditch county councillor voted for the proposals that were eventually implemented.
The 2001-2005 county council has seen a Conservative/Labour coalition, when Labour councillors have voted solidly in favour of the Wyre Forest two-tier proposals, along with proposals for the Review of Special Education Needs.
Now, for reasons best known to themselves, they sack the most able member of the cabinet.
They should hang their heads in shame.
Such political jiggery-pokery, clearly with the coming General Election in mind, also the county council election on May 5, gives politics a bad name.
