FORMER high bailiff John Moss, of Church Street, said Alcester was "very much alive" and had a great deal to be proud about.
He added: "It's a buzzing and vibrant place, packed full of thriving businesses and with a wonderful church and town hall. There's always something going on and people have time for you here.
"I used to pop out to fetch something from a shop and wouldn't return until two hours later - simply because I'd bumped into so many people."
Mr Moss said the town's friendly atmosphere meant it was a welcoming place for the older person, but he added pubs, the Roman Museum and activities and events at the Greig Centre meant there was plenty to attract the youngster. He said Alcester Grammar School would also be opening its new sports hall in the summer, which would be available for community use.
Mr Moss added the town always did well in Britain in Bloom and was home to a dynamic twinning association. St Nicholas Church has also been praised, claiming second place in the Best Kept Churchyard Awards.
He said: "Alcester just keeps on growing - it's very much alive, and to suggest otherwise is completely incorrect. I'm proud of my town and I'm sure others share my opinion."
