HELPING the victims of the tidal wave of terror has become a focus at Wolverley High School because members of one teacher's family live in Sri Lanka.
Head of humanities, Jon Blackwell, has been explaining the problems facing the country, using photographs he took when he visited his charity worker sister, Liz Wickremasinghe, last year, as well as pictures of the same areas after the wave had hit.
He said: "I think this and the fact I have been able to talk about the area from my own experience has made the disaster very real to our students."
The students raised more than £700 for The New Covenant Life Church, the charity Mr Blackwell's sister and brother-in-law work for, with their own "mini Band Aid" and a non-uniform day, last Friday.
The money will go towards establishing an orphanage.
