A STOURPORT firm of fabricators is on the crest of a wave after winning new orders following a feature on Central television.
Workers at M and D Engineering on the Sandy Lane Industrial Estate were filmed creating the shell of a 50ft narrow boat for the documentary series Waterworld - only the third boat the company had made.
The programme, being screened on Thursdays at 7.30pm, has been telling the story of the making of the boat for a Nottingham couple who sold their home to buy it with the profit they made from the house price boom.
It will follow their experience of fitting out the boat themselves as their new home and finishing off the exterior paintwork.
Martyn Jones, who runs M and D Engineering with his father, David, said the Waterworld programme had led to a further eight orders for narrow boats and they were looking to take on an extra worker as a result.
The firm, which employs five people including Mr Jones and his father, has been in Stourport for 16 years as general fabricators producing a range of steelwork from garden gates to factory buildings.
"We only started making narrow boats six months ago and it has been great for us to be involved with this series," added Mr Jones.
