BLAKEDOWN Scout Group under-18s team made a splash at a national canoe polo tournament by clinching runners-up spot.

They beat Derby Vikings 2-1 and FOA Liverpool 4-1 in the group stages of the competition at the London Boat Show.

But they came unstuck when they lost 5-1 to Meridian in their last pool match and went down by the same scoreline to the same opponents in the final.

Team co-ordinator Nigel Elwell said: "This result comes after weeks of intensive training beyond the normal sessions.

"We are often to be found during the winter outside Tesco's in Kidderminster on the lit up section of the canal at night!"

The team was coached by John Richardson and included Harry Green, Jimmy Cooper, James Hill, Ross Unit, Sophie Yarwood and Jenny Adams.
