A MOTORIST has described how she feared for her life when she found herself in the path of a high-speed police car chase across the city yesterday afternoon.
Cheryl Usher was driving along Windermere Drive, Blackpole at around 1.45pm when she spotted a police car coming at her in the distance.
But before she knew it she said another car was coming at her at high speed.
"There was a bus on the other side of the road, and I pulled over to let the car through, but it swerved round the lamp post and went over some gardens," she said.
"My legs turned to jelly and it made me sick - I thought I was going to die.
"I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was like something off the TV.
"What worries me is that if children had been playing in the area they wouldn't have stood a chance."
A dark grey Astra was reported missing from Tallow Hill in the city centre at 1.43pm.
But when police tried to flag down the vehicle, containing two men, the driver failed to stop.
The police helicopter was then mobilised to monitor the pursuit.
Chased
The car took the police on a chase through Rainbow Hill, Blackpole, Warndon and Spetchley, heading back down London Road and Fort Royal Hill before abandoning the car in Park Street.
Police then chased the two men on foot.
One man was arrested near Pizza Hut, near Shrub Hill at 2.03pm.
