POWICK confirmed their place in the semi-final of the Phipps Cup with a good victory in bitterly cold and snowy conditions.
PERSHORE MANOR 1, POWICK FC 7
Powick had to reshuffle the team with several players missing and this meant Dale Humphries, at left-back, and Jamie Abba, in the central midfield role, had their first starts.
The game started with Powick playing a crisp passing game with the new midfield partnership of Lee Henderson, Jamie Abba and Mike Cole linking well.
The opening goal came when Dean Drinkwater played a ball to the overlapping Henderson, who outstripped the full-back to square the ball to an unmarked Harvey, who tapped the ball in from six yards.
Abba maintained the pressure with his tough tackling approach and Sam Dakin again showed well.
Goal two came from a set play. Cole played the ball into the box where Stu Harvey headed in from an acute angle.
Second half changes didn't affect the pace of the game as Powick kept pushing forward and five minutes into the period Drinkwater scored with a powerful drive.
Dave Beats was replaced by player manager Andrew Brown and this change again had an instant effect, as Brown was fouled 30 yards out after his first touch. Drinkwater took the free-kick, he crossed deep at the back post to find Ben Pearson who volleyed home from five yards for his first goal for the club.
Drinkwater was again involved in goal five when he rolled in Andrew Brown to strike left footed from eight yards minutes later.
Cole also got on the scoresheet when he skipped past two challenges to slot in from 20 yards.
Pershore notched a consolation goal before Drinkwater grabbed a brace and the final goal of the game. He beat the offside trap to find himself one-on-one with the keeper and scored with ease.
Man of the match was shared between Dale Humphries and Dean Drinkwater.
Tomorrow (Saturday), Powick are home to West Malvern in the league. Meet at 1.20pm, any problems ring Andrew or Lee.
