THE Malvern Angels youth Section went to Old Coventrians RFC on Sunday to play in the West Midlands Tag festival.
There were 12 teams present, with three clubs, including Malvern, entering two teams.
The captain of the A team was Lauren Davies (The Chase school) and the B team captain was Kim Jones.
Teams were ranked into ability leagues and then played the other four sides in their category.
The Malvern Seconds did well to beat Kenilworth and then lost in a closely fought game against Bournville and Old Coventrians. This put them third in their group overall. This was a very good result with newcomer Jade Douglas having a great game.
The Malvern First team continued with their success this season and won all three games in their league.
They beat Kenilworth convincingly 5-3, Comets 9-8, Yardley 7-6 and this put them top of the group.
Player of the day was certainly Olivia Basten, who scored more tries than coach Babs Madsen could kept count.
Not content with winning the top league, Malvern then played a final between the two top try-scoring sides, which also happened to be Malvern team. They then defeated the Barbarians team, a combination of Coventrians and those from Bournville.
There have been five tournaments so far, with Malvern winning four of these, and the next festival is to be held at Malvern RFC on February 20. Everyone is invited to come along and support the local girls in their bid to become West Midlands Tag Winners for the second season running.
