TRAFFIC congestion and dangerous parking look set to be stopped in one area of Droitwich streets after months of monitoring.

Worcestershire County Council wants to ban parking altogether in parts of Blackfriars Avenue, Spa Road, Fabricius Avenue and Wedgeberrow Close, with the use of double yellow lines.

Concerns have been expressed for some months about cars parking for hours at a time on the bend between Fabricius Avenue and Spa Road, on both sides of the road, obstructing visibility and the passing of other vehicles.

"There is no doubt that local residents have had to put up with a very unacceptable situation for a long time," said town and county councillor Peter Pinfield.

"The issue of road safety both for car users and pedestrians has got to be tackled. Current double parking on the bend is especially dangerous and the many residents of the area are entitled to go about their day to day activities in a better quality environment than they have been experiencing of late."

In a letter to Coun Pinfield, the council's senior technician Keiran Hamstock said: "This parking, mostly generated by the dental practice, has been monitored for several months and become progressively more of a problem with regard to road safety."

The county council is proposing to put double yellow lines through the bend in Blackfriars Avenue, at the junction of Spa Road, at the junction of Fabricius Avenue and Wedgeberrow Close.

It is also proposing a limited waiting restriction of one hour outside Dorset House, for people using the dental practice.

The plans will now go out to public consultation before a final decision is made and then implemented.
