DROITWICH residents are invited to a meeting tomorrow to hear the fate of the town's Lido.

Wychavon District Council's executive board will consider five options for the future of the open air pool before giving a decision.

The board has been deliberating over a business plan from campaign group SALT - Save a Lido Today - to reopen the historic pool with an artificial ice rink in the winter.

As part of a public consultation exercise carried out by the council last year, 79 per cent of people in Droitwich wanted to see it reopened and 33 per cent of people across Wychavon felt the same.

SALT's plans would require a massive cash injection from the council, plus annual top-ups.

"We offered the same chance to all interested parties, including private companies, to come up with project plans to utilise the Lido site," said council leader Martin Jennings.

"The executive board's main issue is to consider whether SALT's proposals have enough substance and whether they will further the best interests of all our residents."

The five options on the table at tomorrow's meeting are:

n Further discussion with SALT.

n Stop discussions and prepare plans to incorporate the Lido site into the park.

n Grant a lease to SALT.

n Offer Droitwich town council a long lease and allow them to sublet it to SALT.

n Consider remarketing the site.

The meeting is due to start at 6.15pm at the Civic Centre in Pershore.

A special meeting of Wychavon's overview and scrutiny committee will be held on Wednesday, February 16, at 6.15pm in the John Corbett Room,Community Hall, Heritage Way.
