PERSHORE Rugby Club put in one of their worst performances of the season but still beat Hereford 20-12 at Piddle Park.

The Midlands Three West (South) clash saw Pershore stay on course for promotion but it wasn't pretty.

Hereford took the lead after 15 minutes when a spectacular kick ahead bounced up kindly for their winger who rounded the covering defence and touched down.

Pershore clawed their way back and, after 10 minutes of pressure on the Hereford line, the visitors infringed and James Martin kicked the penalty.

The half-time talk did the trick because Pershore were a different side after the interval.

Under the inspirational leadership of Carl Evans they began to dominate proceedings. A solid scrum, which eventually pushed Hereford around, and good line-out ball gave the Pershore backs space and time to force Hereford on to the back foot.

When they spread the ball wide and attacked the blind side, a hole in Hereford's defence opened up and the evergreen Sid Hirons, accepted the invitation and touched down.

Hereford, though, fought back and after a quick tap, their pacy winger touched down under the posts with Griffiths converting.

Once again Pershore pushed on and decided to run two penalties. They were rewarded by a try from Alex Peel after a bullocking run from Marcus Whyte, converted by Martin. And with the clock running down, the victory was sealed when captain Carl Evans stormed through three tackles to touch down.
