THE son of a Worcester postman who died suddenly has spoken of the kindness shown by his customers who raised £790 to give to his family.
Brian Harvey, who had been delivering mail in Warndon Villages for seven years, died suddenly over Christmas at the age of 58.
"On behalf of my family, I would like to say thank you for all the kindness shown to us over the past few weeks," said Brian's son Andrew.
"My mother is touched by the amount of feeling shown and the kind generosity of people who were on my father's post round.
"I am sure the collection and cards will be a comfort to her in the weeks and months ahead."
Organised collection
Sheila Kimberley, from Wood Leason Avenue, who with Jill Allen, organised the collection among Mr Harvey's customers, said it showed how much the residents thought of him.
"Everybody seems to have thought he was good to them but nobody realised he was like that to everybody," said Mrs Kimberley.
"When I started the collection I was expecting to get perhaps £20 and a bunch of flowers, but when I got £100 over the first night, it showed people really cared.
Mrs Kimberley said she had heard "countless stories" about what Mr Harvey, who lived in Tolladine, had done beyond the call of duty, including alerting a woman when he was worried he had not seen her elderly mother.
"It's a pity none of us realised how considerate he was before he died, it's been a moving experience," said Mrs Kimberley.
"There can be a lack of community spirit in Warndon Villages, but this has really brought people together."
