POLICE think three men who helped the fire brigade evacuate a block of flats after a blaze broke out may well have been involved in starting it.

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately in the first-floor drying room at Abberton House flats in Lock Close, Batchley, on Friday at about 12.50am.

Three white men in their early 20s helped the fire brigade to evacuate a number of people from the flats and attempted to put out the fire.

Redditch Fire Station sent two fire engines to deal with the blaze and there were no reported injuries.

Police would like to speak to the three men as soon as possible.

DC Stuart Hunt, of Redditch Police, said: "It may be that someone could have noticed someone they live with smelling of smoke or saw black markings on their clothing or shoes."

Anyone with information can call Redditch CID on 08457 444 888.
