REDDITCH Swimming Club members joined a 40-strong team that splashed down at a sports development camp in Worcester recently.

The event, organised by the University College Worcester based WASP (Worcestershire All Sports Partnership) team, saw the children from all over the Midlands provided with a range of healthy information, including advice on hydration, nutrition, warming up procedures and technique analysis.

British swimmer, Alexander Scotcher, who holds the national record in the 4x100m freestyle relay, was a guest speaker at the two-day event.

He advised the youngsters, aged 10 to 12, on how to balance schoolwork with training.

Brian McGuinness, national organiser for the British Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association also ran practical pool sessions, video technique analysis and coaching skills, to the swimmers and Worcester Wolves player Rick Solvason was also on hand to offer fitness advice.

WASP Swimming Development Officer and Organiser Kasia Trounce said the RNIB New College held event had proved a real success.

"The aim was to basically provide children and parents with lots of advice on nutrition, to promote good health and fitness and help encourage swimmers who are just below competing at county level to push towards this higher standard," she added.
