THE chairman of Workington Town's supporters club has hit back at negative comments made about their ground facilities after the Reds clashed with Carlisle in the FA Trophy two weeks ago claiming "it wasn't their fault".

Reds chairman Pat Cremin called the facilities "a disgrace" and the Advertiser has had letters about the conditions but Workington Supporters Club chairman Alec Graham said it was down to Carlisle to make the arrangements for the tie and not themselves.

He said: "It's no fault of Workington's, it was Carlisle's match.

"We offered our ground free of charge to Carlisle to stage the FA Trophy tie with Redditch and they had less than a week to arrange the game.

He added: "There is usually no fan segregation at all in place at Workington Town but it was on the Cumbria Police's insistence that temporary scaffolding was put up to keep the supporters apart.

"The stewarding for the game was a joint effort between both Carlisle and Workington stewards and they are second to none.

"Setting facilities for providing toilets for the visiting fans was purely down to Carlisle so we had no say in that.

"As regards refreshments one burger van didn't turn up but again it wasn't our responsibility to provide any catering.

"However, one of our supporters did go around selling pies to Redditch fans and sold 120 on the day.

"We made every effort on the day and I feel we've been smacked in the face by these comments."
