A NEW "decriminalised parking" scheme could be introduced in Redditch, handing powers of enforcement from the police to Redditch Council and Worcestershire County Council.
Redditch Council's executive committee will look at the proposals tonight, which could mean all proceeds from fines will be ploughed back into the authority's coffers specifically to use for off-street parking improvements and such like.
It means both the borough and county councils would employ their own wardens and have the power to ensure parking policies are implemented effectively.
A report stated: "Parking is an issue which is raised regularly.
"It is often raised in connection with parents delivering and collecting children to and from schools and is sometimes seen to be the cause of congestion and the prevention of access by emergency vehicles.
"For those adversely affected by it, it is a very emotive subject and it has a significant impact on quality of life."
The executive committee is likely to ask an overview and scrutiny committee to examine the feasibility of the initiative and report back.
Any launch costs would be paid by Redditch Council but it is thought these would be recovered from the fines.
