MOTORCYCLIST Martin Robbins is gearing up for what he hopes will be another successful season in his sport.

The 40-year-old Worcester resident enhanced his reputation with a series of top results on the SuperMoto circuit last year and sees no reason why he can't repeat that again in 2005.

Last season saw Robbins, of Hylton Road, win the Southern SuperMoto Championships as well as finish third in the Pro SuperMoto National Championships, both in the category for bikes over 450cc.

In addition, he also took ninth place overall in the British Championships in the up to 250cc category despite only competing in two of the six rounds.

He raced four rounds of the British Hillclimb Championships, achieving a top-four finish on each occasion. That success included a final round victory at Margham Park where he set a new lap record in the process.

Smithereens

And he also smashed the track record to smithereens at the Mid-Wales Motorsport Centre, taking 10 seconds off the existing time for any vehicle, not just bikes, on the track.

So, not surprisingly, Robbins' confidence is high going into March's opening events.

"Things are looking really good for this year," he said. "I am really looking forward to this season.

"The results have put me up there and because of the results two companies have offered me sponsorship.

"It means I can make a really serious effort because it was starting to get expensive -- that's why I did selected rounds.

"The aim for this year is to finish higher up than third in the Pro SuperMoto. To win it would be nice but I would be happy with second. I always look to go one better than the year before.

"I would also like to retain the Southern title and finish higher up in the British Championships and hopefully I can do that now."

When not racing, Robbins, who suffered a broken shoulder during last season, spends time working with future stars of the sport at a series of training schools he has set up across the country.

His chance at success on the track this time around has been aided by sponsorship, principally from OK Racing and TM Road Legal Quads, both of Worcester.

Robbins is still looking for sponsorship and anyone able to help can call him on 07944-240978.
