Harbury 29

A BELOW par Alcester performance let in Harbury to complete a league double over the Kings Coughton side on Saturday.

The Alcestrians dominated territory in the opening 10 minutes and took the lead through Scott Carmichael's first minute penalty.

But Alcester's early upper hand was soon lost as Harbury got into their stride and levelled the game with a penalty of their own.

A Carmichael penalty miss soon after didn't help as the visitors ran in two converted tries 15 minutes before the interval.

Alcester turned around and now faced a stifling wind along with a 17-3 points deficit.

After avoiding going behind even further as Harbury finally missed one penalty chance it got worse for Alcester as lock forward Andy Flynn was soon ordered from the field after being shown the yellow card.

After surviving two scrums on their own line Alcester battled back and fly half Robbie Parker set off on a run before feeding Brett Allard who went over in the corner.

But Harbury re-established their 14-point advantage with another try before Flynn returned from the sin bin.

Harbury's fourth try killed off the game for Alcester but the home side were rewarded with a consolation as Parker scored and Carmichael added the conversion.

Alcester have a two-week break from league action, when they will be playing pool fixtures.

Alcester seconds went one better than their senior side, despite playing most of the game with only 14 men, after Steve Wade had to leave the field with injury.

They led 12-0 at the break, and ran in eventual winners by the same margin, with both sides scoring tries in the second half.

Alcester's try scorers were Rich Golder, Dave Gibbons and centre Ian O'Dell.
