ThE January meeting was an open one and quite a few visitors came. Names were taken for the group meeting, which Rubery is hosting in March and other business concluded.
The speaker for the evening was John Fletcher and his talk was entitled 'The Roy Castle story.' John was a fundraiser and told many stories, most of which were funny, although most of his work was for hospices, he gave most of his information about Roy Castle's life and his great friendship with Tommy cooper; all in all an enjoyable talk. After coffee, Jose Townsend told us of a venture started by author Bill Bryson, to clear our streets of clutter, signs etc. The WI has been asked to help with this, and we were all asked to keep our eyes open in Rubery and report back, which I am sure we will do.
