OAKALLS residents are up in arms after controversial plans for a housing development were re-submitted.

Housing developers KingsOak have been accused of not listening to home owners after submitting revised plans to Bromsgrove District Council to build 58 houses, plus an open space area, at the Oakalls. The site is owned by JJ Gallagher Ltd.

Before buying the land KingsOak want to see if a development would be possible. However, the new plan only has two houses less than the previous one, which was rejected.

Councillor Caroline Spencer (Con-Slideslow) said: "It was hoped consideration would have been given for the land off Regents Park Road. Reducing the proposed number of 60 houses further to allow for the building of a nursery or community centre and a reasonable open space for a children's play area."

Interest had been expressed by Just Learning Limited to build and operate a day nursery on the development.

"There are now over 1,000 houses already on this development, with no reasonable sized children's play area. Open spaces that have been made available cannot be called play areas as they are far too small," said Cllr Spencer.

She has now written to the district council's chief planning officer requesting the matter goes to the planning committee and for a site visit to be carried out prior to any decision being made.

KingsOak South Midlands managing director Paul Jewell said: "KingsOak is an interested party in the land owned by JJ Gallagher on Regents Park Road in Bromsgrove. We have been working closely with Bromsgrove District Council and, in light of concerns about public open space, we have reduced the density of homes planned in accordance with the wishes of local people."

Cllr Spencer added: "Decreasing the number of homes by only two is still not enough, I still want more land made available for open spaces."
